Wax flowers are one of my go-to bunches whenever I find them at the supermarket. I especially love the pop of color that the purple ones add! Their small, delicate blooms are perfect for giving a bouquet that little something extra. Not only do they look charming, but they also smell great! The scent reminds me of a blend of lemon and almond—finding "filler" flowers with a pleasant smell can be a challenge, so their fragrance is a great bonus. The next time you spot them in the store, crush one of the needles to see if you enjoy the scent as much as I do!
A bit about wax flowers
Price: $
Avg Vase Life: 5-12 days (depending on the variety, these flowers also dry very nicely - simply leave them in your vase of water until the water is gone.)
Texture: Structured
Prep Time: Long (These branches have a lot of small leaves that can make a big mess, but they’ are a very fun filler so if you have the time to clean them they’re worth it!)
Pet Safe: Safe
Season: Fall, Winter and Spring (These can often be found all year around in supermarkets, depending on where you’re shopping.)
Water: 3-4 inches of lukewarm water
Tips: These flowers have a lot of small leaves, similar to pine needles, which create a mess while arranging. To make cleanup easier, I recommend laying out a large sheet of brown paper or a cut paper bag underneath your work area. This will catch the mess and make clean up much easier!
