Spray roses have become a staple in my floral arrangements. I often find myself grabbing a bunch because they are nearly always in stock at my supermarket, come in a range of fun colors, and are surprisingly affordable. Unlike regular roses, which are also commonly available, their petite size makes them less overtly romantic and a great complement to many arrangements. Whether you’re looking to add the perfect color or introduce a bit of softness, spray roses are a reliable choice. Their only downside is that they can be a bit more sensitive than other rose varieties, so be sure to take good care of them—change the water every other day, re-trim the stems, and use flower food to keep them looking their best.
Happy arranging!
A bit about spray roses
Price: $$
Avg Vase Life: 6-10 days
Texture: Soft and Structured
Takes a bit of time (They often come with some leaves and tiny thorns, but they don’t take too long to clean)
Pet Safe: Yes
Season: Spring through fall (These can typically be found all year around in supermarkets, depending on where you’re shopping)
Water: 3-4 inches of lukewarm water
Tips: Spray roses can be a bit temperamental, I recommend spending some time looking for a good bunch, make sure they have bright green stems and that there isn’t any bruising on the petals before you make your purchase.
(Also, I’ve noticed the lighter colored varieties tend to die a bit faster.)
